“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so, shall we ever be with the Lord.” I Thessalonians 4:16-17

I recently saw a picture of a man and a boy talking.  The son said to his father, “When will Jesus return?”  The father answered, “I don’t know, son, we are not on the planning committee, we are on the welcoming committee.”

When the disciples questioned Jesus about His planned return to earth, He told them: “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” Matthew 24:36. He told them some of the things that would transpire before He returned, but He did not give them a definite time.

However, He did tell them that their responsibility was to be prepared, ready and watching for His return.  I am sure that all of them fully expected that this would happen in their lifetime.  It has now been over 2000 years and Jesus has not returned. He said He was going to prepare a place for them, and can you imagine all the planning that is going on in heaven getting ready for that day.  Even the angels don’t have a date, they just know it will happen in God’s timing.

We all want to be part of the welcoming committee when He returns.  That means we need to be always ready, because we have no idea when it will happen.  It is important that we be clothed in the robe of righteousness, filled with His Spirit, faithfully watching each day for His coming.

Often when we look up in the sky and see fluffy white clouds, we think maybe this could be the day.  What a great day that will be when we hear the trumpet sound, and gravity loses its power.  We will be caught up to meet Him in the air.  Can you just hear the shouts of praise as the saints look upon the face of their Saviour?

Prayer:  Jesus, thank you for the promise that you are coming back for your children.  Thank you that you have made a way for us to be part of that great welcoming committee.  Help us to faithful to you, watching and waiting for your return.
