“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.” Prov. 31:25-26

I look at what people are wearing. Sometimes I wonder if some people do not have a full-length mirror in their home. I cringe when I see how some people appear in public. Of course, I keep my thoughts to myself, because I know it is none of my business.

When we were children growing up, we never had a lot of new clothes. Most of my clothing was passed down from an older cousin. Fortunately, she had a lot of nice things, so I was happy to wear them. My mom always made sure we were clean and dressed appropriately and she taught me to sew when I was quite young. So, I grew up knowing how to match colours. I believe my appearance on the outside reflects what is in my heart.

But far more important than the clothes we wear, is how we are on the inside. The Bible instructs us to search our hearts and ask the Lord to cleanse us from all sin. Our lives should manifest the fruit of the Spirit as mentioned in Galatians 5:22,23: “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.”

Our virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 has strength and dignity, her words are wise, and she is filled with kindness. When it says that she laughs without fear of the future, I believe it is because she has full confidence in God and knows that He is in complete control of her life.

What do we have to do to be like her? Simply give our lives completely to the Lord, ask Him to cleanse our hearts from all unrighteousness, and endeavour to let the fruit of the Spirit be evident in our lives every day.

Prayer: Jesus, hear our prayer today, make us what you would have us be, a woman who glorifies you in every aspect of our lives.
