“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” II Peter 1:3-4.

The words of a song I haven’t heard for years were running through my mind today.  Here are some of the words:

God hath not promised skies always blue,

Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through;

God hath not promised sun without rain,

Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

But God hath promised strength for the day,

Rest for the labor, light for the way,

Grace for the trials, help from above,

Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

There are many things that the Lord has promised us in His word and Peter described them as “great and precious promises.”

“And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.” I John 2:25

“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” Titus 1:2.

“Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?” James 2:5

“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” James 1:12

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” Acts 2:38-39.

These are all promises that we can claim and know that they are ours because we belong to Jesus.  He never promised that our life would be easy, and that we would never have problems.  But, no matter what circumstances we are going through, He will always be there for us, because His Word cannot fail. Just bring your problems and questions to the Lord, and then lean upon His promise that He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Prayer:  Jesus we thank you for your Word and for the promises that you have given us.  Help us to trust those promises today and believe you for the answers we need.
