1 My child, listen to what I say,and treasure my commands.
2 Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
3 Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.
4 Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:1-6
We live in a world where everyone believes that they are right, and people struggle to admit when they are wrong. I’ll be honest, I don’t like being wrong, and it unfortunately happens a lot.
It’s important though that we are able to admit when we are struggling with understanding something and that we may be wrong. That doesn’t make us weak, it actually makes us strong.
When we are able to say “God, I’m struggling to understand this truth from your word” Or “I think I may have reacted badly in that situation” we are giving God permission to lead us.
The scripture above tells us a few things we need to do regarding wisdom and understanding.
First is we need to listen to God’s voice and treasure his commands. Drown out the noise of the world, and concentrate on what he is speaking into your life. Treasure, study and apply the bible, for he speaks through his inspired word!
Second, we need to turn our ears to wisdom and concentrate on understanding. We need to listen to wisdom, and we need to think about what we think about. Be aware of what you have your ears turned to, if it’s nothing that beneficial for you, then turn your ears to something that is.
Third, we need to cry out for insight and and ask for understanding. Ask God to help you to discern what is really going on in a situation and ask for help. It’s okay to admit that you don’t understand and you need his guidance.
We need to search for all these things as we would search for hidden treasure and then we will understand what it is to fear the Lord. He will grant you wisdom if you ask for it! He never wants you to be confused and lead astray by anything that is false and contrary to his word.
If you continue reading the rest of Proverbs chapter two you will see that there is safety and protection found in having wisdom and understanding. How amazing is that?
God, I ask today that you would grant me wisdom. Help me to better understand your word, your plan for my life and what is going on around me.
