We Need Each Other

“The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee; Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;” Psalm 20:1-2

Many years ago, I read this scripture and felt the Lord showing me how important it was to be part of a church family. I realized that there would be times when we would face trouble and would need support from others. When we were going through experiences that made it hard for us to pray, we could ask God to lead our fellow believers to pray for us. I made a note of it and then forgot about it.

A few months later, my husband was admitted to the hospital with heart problems. Surgery was performed, with every expectation of it being successful. However, God had other plans, and complications developed, resulting in his death.  It was hard to understand, but then the Lord reminded me of this scripture He had given me. When I did not feel like praying, I felt strength and comfort because my church family prayed for me, I thank God for the peace He gave during this time.

As a child of God, we can depend on Him in every situation. He has a plan and a purpose for our lives, and we can trust Him to be there for us. He knows our future. I believe He gave me this scripture, knowing that I would need it later.

Isaiah 65:24 “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”

We need each other. I believe that after all the isolation over the past few years, we should be more aware of this. We need to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit as we pray. He can direct our thoughts to someone who needs prayer. We may not even know what they are going through, but as we intercede on their behalf, God meets them where they are, bringing them the comfort and strength they need.

Are you going through a trial or time of sickness or sorrow today? Remember, there are sisters out there that are praying for you. Even though you don’t feel like praying, rest on the assurance that the Lord hears the cry of your heart, and He is directing others to hold you up in prayer.

Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus for all the times you send us help from your people. Help us to be sensitive to the needs of others and remember them in our prayers.
