“One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.)
What is your main goal in life? Like the Psalmist, I hope the Lord and His House is at the top of your list!
Although David knew King Saul was in pursuit to do him harm, his first priority was his desire to serve God all the days of his life. He knew his help came from the Lord. David wanted the world to know that as long as he lived he would enjoy the beauty of the Lord.
David knew where to go when his world seemed to be falling apart. He knew that in the house of the Lord – in the church there was a manifestation of the character of God not seen anywhere else. It was a safe place. It’s where the presence of God abides.
I’m so thankful for a place of refuge when the storms of life are raging and I need help in my situation.
Prayer: The words of an old hymn come to mind, “Where could I go, but to the Lord.” I am so glad my parents showed me the way to God’s House. All of the days of my life I want to dwell there. Amen.
