“And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.”  (Matthew 18:13 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

Often we allow what I call “the Mob Mentality” to take over in our minds.  But, we need to see things the way God does.  Every individual has value.  When necessary, God will go to no end to have an audience of one.

When the shepherd realized one of his sheep was missing, he went on a search for that one lost sheep.  The lost sheep was of great value to the shepherd.  His flock was not complete without that one.

We see this pattern repeated throughout scripture.

  • When Jacob was alone and stopped to rest, God sent a ladder from Heaven to have a heart-to-heart talk with him.  Jacob was not the same after this encounter.
  • Saul was on his way to Damascus when he was interrupted so God could get his attention.  What a zealot Saul became after he realized who he had been persecuting.

God is the Great Shepherd and He cares for us individually!

Prayer:  Thank You, Lord, for stopping me in my tracks and talking with me.  You really care about my individual situations.  I realize that I am of value to You.  You’re such a loving and caring God!
