“Give your troubles to God; He will be up all night anyway.”

“He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber” (Psalm 121:3 in the New American Standard Bible)

We pray because prayer opens up the floodgates of God’s infinite grace and power to flow toward the person in need. God can act without prayer, but He chooses to operate within the boundaries of human will and invitation. He allows us to participate in His work on earth with each prayer.

Leonard Ravenhill once said about prayer, “One might estimate the weight of the world, tell the size of the celestial city, count the stars of heaven, measure the speed of lightning, and tell the time of the rising and the setting of the sun – but you cannot estimate prayer power. Prayer is as vast as God because He is behind it. Prayer is a mighty as God because He has committed Himself to answer it.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, when I face a tough situation, my first response should be to ask for Your help. Thank You for reminding me that You long to be my helper and to be fully involved in my life.

“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” (I Peter 1:7 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

Who wants to go through trials? It hurts when the fire burns away the dull outer layers of my life. But, oh, how beautiful it is when the gold shines through to reflect God’s glory!

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for being my refiner! I can get through this for You are with me during this test of my faith. Amen.

“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” (Mark 1:35 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

Like Jesus, we too need a quiet time away from the distractions of the day and the thousands of thoughts that bombard our minds. By example, Jesus showed us that when His energy waned, He took time to recharge.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am so busy, but I realize today that I am not immune to the pressures of life and I too must recharge my spiritual battery in Your presence. Revive me. Restore me. Renew me. In Jesus Name, Amen.

“The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.” (Psalm 121:3-6 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

In the midst of our most stressful days, God provides protection for us. A difficult employer, family demands, and weariness may threaten to drain our strength, but under the shelter of His hand we find a place of restoration.

Prayer: Whether day or night, I find rest in You. Thank You, Lord, for reminding me today of Your care for me.

“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” (Psalm 121:3-4 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

There is so much injustice in our world today. But, God is aware of every violent crime; He sees the poor and the mistreated. He knows about the illness that has taken a loved one away; He knows all about pain and suffering. He sees it all. And He has not abdicated His throne and He has not abandoned His plan to one day set all things right.

Prayer: Lord, You know the difficult situations I face. You see, You hear and I have this assurance that nothing escapes Your attention. Thank You for watching over me.

“I am the rose of Sharon” Song of Solomon 2:1a

Women love flowers. We love the way they look and smell. And roses are often a favorite. Could it be that the symbolism of a rose is applied to Jesus Christ so we can truly appreciate His beauty and perfection and the perfect love that He has for each and every one of us. The Rose of Sharon is calling you today to enjoy the quiet solitude of His garden. A place where your heart is still and your mind can rest. As the fragrance of His presence envelops you, take time to savor the delicate petals, the sweet perfume and the beauty of the Rose of Sharon.

Prayer: Jesus, may Your wonderful fragrance linger with me all through the day.

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:” (I John 2:1 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

Because of the charges laid against us, Jesus Christ was tried and convicted. He served our sentence. Now, He lives to plead our case. Take time right now to thank your heavenly advocate for nailing your guilty verdict to His cross and applying His righteousness to your sin-stained soul!

Prayer: Jesus, it is Your blood, Your DNA that covers my sin. There is no evidence against me. The charges are dropped and my sins are forgiven. Thank you for setting me free!

“Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” (Psalm 147:5 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

Life can seem so complex from our vantage point. The boundaries of our minds keep us from seeing through the maze of difficulty to a victorious end. We are limited to the present reality, but God’s understanding is without measure.

Prayer: Instead of trying to figure it all out, I will trust Your wisdom, Your knowledge. Lead me, Lord.

Not being prepared to stay overnight I did not have my own Bible with me, so I picked up the Gideon Bible that was in the drawer of my son’s room at Carolina Hospital. Engraved on the front cover was “Thinking of you – The Gideons.” God gave His Word with us in mind. He inspired holy men of old to write. How do I know it’s inspired? As one great Bible teacher said, “Because it inspires me!”

2 Timothy 3:16 reads,

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for instruction in righteousness” (King James Version of the Holy Bible).

Prayer: Today I want to thank You especially, Lord, for Your Word. When I struggle with decisions I must make, I can read Your Word and find the answer. Time spent in Your Word is profitable and uplifting.
