Focus Verses: Genesis 1:1-5, 14-19

When God speaks, things happen!  Here, in the opening verses of the Bible – the story of creation, God is forming things with His Word.  He does this in each of our lives; in the day to day and throughout our lifetimes.

On our own we have emptiness, places that need to be filled and missing pieces.  God’s Word consumes those voids with what He creates.  In these first few verses we see the truth that before moving forward with anything we do, light must be present.  Jesus reminds us in John 12:46 (around 4,000 years after that first day of creation) that “I am a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me shall not abide in darkness.”  He is your Light and He has made it clear from the beginning that He must be present for any good creation to take place.

On the fourth day God gives light its place. He gave purpose to it after it was in its place.  Sometimes we move to a new chapter or position but still may not know why.  Sometimes we feel like we are “stuck” in one place or position and don’t know what we are still doing there.  We may never know why we are placed where God positions us but what matters is that He knows.  The light was formed at the very beginning but wasn’t divided, placed, and commanded for its purpose until later. When it’s time, God begins to list the specific purposes of the light. Its ultimate purpose is to give light upon the earth.  Don’t lose sight of your main purpose while searching for your direction.

Notice as each day of creation comes to a close, it is stated that evening and morning were the ‘first, second, third…’ day.  God begins at night, friends.  He begins while it is dark.  He knows the end from the beginning.  Not only does He know the end of this earth from the beginning, but the end of your life from the beginning.  He knows the end of your day from the beginning.  He started today while it was still dark and He will end it by speaking His Word into that darkness.

Prayer Focus

Ask your Creator, the One and only God, to create something new in you today.  Let Him use any emptiness or darkness in you as a place to put something new and beautiful for you to use for His kingdom. “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” John 1:5.

First, we need light, once that is in place, it makes way for creation. Emptiness, voids, and darkness can no longer remain because the Light has taken over.

Emptiness, voids and darkness can no longer remain because the Light has taken over.
