“The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.” Proverbs 15:24

Scrolling through FaceBook recently I saw this message: “Don’t worry about dying, you will live forever. All you have to worry about is Location, Location, Location.” It may sound strange, but it is true, the choice we make here on earth determines where we will spend eternity. God gave us free will, and His mercy is extended to all, but we must make a choice to serve Him or reject Him.

In I Kings 4:29-32 we read: “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men;…. and his fame was in all nations round about. And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.”

His proverbs covered a lot of practical things that can be very beneficial to us all. But the one thing that he stressed many times can be found in Chapter l, verse 7: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Fearing God does not mean that we are afraid of Him. It means we love Him, and we stand in awe of His majesty, justice, wisdom, power, and mercy. We believe in His life, death, and resurrection. We submit ourselves to His will and way. We glorify Him by our words of worship and the life we live.

Psalms 33:8 “Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.”

We will never attain the great wisdom Solomon had, but we can come boldly to the Lord, asking Him for the wisdom we need to live lives that are pleasing in His sight. He will not turn us away.

James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

This week we have touched on a few of the great statements that Solomon wrote in the Book of Proverbs. I trust this has been a blessing to each of you.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that you have set eternity in our hearts. We will live forever someday, and we thank you we can be assured of our destination: spending eternity with you because we know you as our Saviour and Lord.
