“For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise in the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed:  and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)

The book of Esther has always intrigued me.  As I was reading it once again, I was impressed with this beautiful Jewish girl and the wisdom she had.  Mordecai had raised her well.  Although she was now married to the King, she still continued to listen to her elder and mentor.  She was concerned when she saw him in sackcloth and ashes.  The king had assigned Hatach to watch over her and care for her needs.  She sent him to see why Mordecai was mourning.

Mordecai sent a disturbing message back with Hatach about her people and the plot to destroy the Jews.  He revealed that she was part of the plot.  Her response was one of great respect asking for a call to fasting and prayer.  Although the name of God is not contained in the Book of Esther, there is an allusion to God’s promises and His Divine providence.

To go before the king without him calling for her was risky, but she took the chance after prayer and fasting, and was received by the king.  The Jewish nation was sparred and Haman, the plotter was killed instead.

Mentors and elders are very important in all of our lives.  Their wisdom will always be needed to make the right decisions in life.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, I am especially thankful today for Godly leadership.  May I always listen to their wisdom and react appropriately.  Amen!
