“So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.”
Galatians 5:1
It’s been a week of celebrating freedom in Canada and the USA. I’m sure at one point or another we have each taken a moment to thank God that we live in a country that allows us to worship freely. I am so thankful that I can enter into His presence without worry that my life may be in danger.
I am also thankful that Christ has set me free from the bondage of sin. He has redeemed me and my past no longer has control over me. This scripture tells us though to “stay free” and to not get tied up in slavery again. Oftentimes we blame situations or tragedies for our current spiritual state or for how bad we are struggling or battling through a season.
Ultimately, it’s up to us though. Yes, we can always find freedom in Him and deliverance – but we must make the daily choice to stay clear of temptations and situations that will bind us. His desire is for us to remain free, as He paid an incredible price for us to do so.
Be aware of your surroundings, and what you allow into your home and mind. Is the way you’re living right now going to cause you to sacrifice your freedom, or will it draw you closer to God?
Lord, help me to recognize when I am going down the wrong path. Help me to be aware of my choices, and that every choice has a consequence or reward. I want to draw closer to You, so help me to stay away from anything that hinders that from happening.
