“Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.” Psalm 112:1

In the opening verse of this Psalm, the writer states two requirements for living a life that is blessed. One is to fear the Lord and the other is to delight in His commandments.  Though the world around us may be filled with turmoil and trouble, if we meet these two conditions, we shall never be moved.

The Psalmist goes on to list some of the blessings that those who live for God alone will receive:

  • Verse 2 – a mighty seed and a blessed generation.
  • Verse 3 – spiritual wealth and riches.
  • Verse 4 – a heart of compassion.
  • Verse 5 – discretion and wisdom.
  • Verse 6 – enduring influence.
  • Verse 7 – no fear, because he trusts in God.
  • Verse 8 – a steadfast heart.
  • Verse 9 – honour because of righteousness.

What a privilege it is to know the Lord in such a way. We have confidence in Him that sustains us in all the circumstances of our lives. When problems arise in our lives, we can go boldly to the throne of grace to obtain the help that we need. We know that He hears every cry of our hearts and that He will not withhold anything good from His children. His love is an everlasting love far beyond what our human minds can comprehend.

There are many examples in the Bible of people who had this confidence in God. Moses demonstrated it in Exodus 14:13-14

“And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, thank you for all the blessings that you bestow upon us each day. We are so thankful that we know you and have the confidence and assurance that you will guide and direct every step that we take as we trust in you. We are greatly blessed.
