“For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.” Psalm 48:14

The word guide is used to describe someone who leads others through unknown areas, or one who directs, supervises, or influences, usually to a particular end.

I like to read stories about the early pioneers who travelled in wagon trains across the country. They had no GPS to follow. There were dangerous rivers to cross and mountains to climb before reaching their destination. They were fortunate if they could find a guide to go with them who had travelled that way before.

In the 17th century, John Bunyan wrote a Christian allegory depicting the spiritual journey of Christian from the “City of Destruction” to the “Celestial City.” His guide for the journey was Evangelist. The story represents the trials, temptations, and perseverance of faith on the journey toward salvation.

When we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, we embark on our journey toward Heaven. We are not promised a life free from trials and tests. We do not know what each day will hold. But Jesus has promised to guide us every step of the way. We need not fear as we stand on the promises in His Word.

Psalm 91:9-11 “Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Matthew 28:20 “Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

Hebrews 13:5 “for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

We have a guide who has passed this way before. He knows every step we take, and we can trust Him to bring us safely to our destinations – eternity with Him.

Thought For Today: Keep your eyes on the goal and trust the Guide.
