“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
I have always been intrigued by Psalm 119. God’s Word, or some equivalent description, is mentioned in all the verses except Verse 122. The writer expressed throughout the psalm that he at some point had gone astray and felt guilty, but he depended on the Word of God to lead him on the right path. He desired it more than food or gold.
I remember beginning the practice of reading the whole Bible every year when I was just a teenager. I know I missed a few years but have certificates for the last twenty years. I confess that there have been times when I had to binge-read to meet the deadline. No matter how many times we read it, there are always things to discover, verses that we do not remember seeing before. Golden nuggets of truth appear in stories that we have read before. I mostly read it in the KJV but sometimes use a different translation.
As I opened my Bible this year to begin reading, I decided to go more slowly, taking my time to digest what I was reading. If I do not get through the whole Bible in 2025, I will not feel guilty. I am praying the Lord will illuminate His Word to me in a distinct way this year.
This Word of Life Devotion has a large audience around the world. I thank the Lord for the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful ministry. I pray that each article I share will be anointed by the Holy Spirit. Each day as I read God’s Word, I want His Spirit to inspire me, so that my writing will be a blessing to those who read it.
Psalm 119:10-11 “With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
I trust that others who read this will join me in spending more time in God’s Word this year. Let it be our daily light, guiding us on life’s pathway.
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for your Word and the lessons we learn from it. Draw us ever closer to you in 2025.
