“But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you.” (Luke 6:27 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)
In essence, Jesus was saying, “Listen up!”
While reading this passage today, I was reminded of a time I was trying to help our son, Stephen, understand why he must forgive someone who had wronged him. His response was, “But, Mom, how can I forgive him for what he’s done to me?” He was struggling to listen and act on my counsel.
God wants us to be generous in forgiving those that have hurt us. Loving those who have done us wrong is God’s way of settling the score. It’s not a easy thing to do, but I encourage you to listen and act on God’s instruction.
Prayer: I need strength to love my enemies. They purposely wronged me, Lord. Help me to forgive them and love them as You do when I transgress. Amen.
