“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily best us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.)
The Apostle Paul no doubt watched and cheered from the grandstands of the Greco-Macedonian national games. He observed winners and losers as they competed for the prize. He compared living for God to a race. I couldn’t agree more.
Paul saw faithfulness and struggle in the lives of the participants. There is nothing easy about a race. The prize and the encouragement of the crowd kept them in the race; they were in it to reach their goal. Their skills and abilities were on display and yet patience was required all the way to the finish line.
The goal of Satan is to defeat us. But, our goal must be Heaven. Even with all the struggles, we can make it!
Prayer: Lord, I am relying on Your faithfulness to make it to the finish line. One day it will be worth it all; worth every struggle and heartache. I’m thankful those who are cheering me on. Amen!
