“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust” (Psalm 91:2).

We oftentimes do not struggle with accepting the fact that God is our fortress, our protector and shield from the fiery darts of the enemy. We believe that He is our defense and our strong tower that we can run to in times of trouble. We proclaim it; preach it; and we utilize it! One area we do seem to struggle in is rest. Not laying on the couch with a bag of potato chips rest, but godly rest. Moments spent in the sweet presence of God, not asking for anything, not seeking anything and not desiring anything but more of Him.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the chaos that is life, but there are times we need to rest…in Him! To strip away all the noise and distractions of this world and intentionally place ourselves at His feet – just be with Him. With no other commitments, with no hidden motive and not in need of anything –  just resting and listening. We need to have a clear mind if we are to hear the still small voice of God and be aware of His presence that surrounds us.

Something beautiful and miraculous happens when you desire only more of Him with sincerity and passion.

Prayer: Lord, help me to set aside a specific time for You and only You every day. Help me to lay aside every weight of this life and put away every distraction; to simply rest in Your presence. Help me  recognize Your voice so I can always be in your perfect will.
