“Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” John 10:7-9

I recently heard a news story about some men who decided to steal from a Jewelry store and rather than trying to get in through the doors, they found another way. They entered an unlocked door of another business, cut through an interior wall to an empty store, and then through another wall into the jewelry store. They wanted something badly but were not willing to obtain it in the proper way.

Jesus teaching His disciples the principles of His kingdom, used the illustration of the sheepfold. There was only one entrance into that space, and that was through the door. If anyone tried to enter by another route, they did not have the best interest of the sheep at heart, they were thieves and robbers.

There are people today who believe that all roads lead to heaven. Some think they can buy their way into the kingdom, others believe that by doing good works, they will be guaranteed a place in heaven. They want the blessings that Jesus has promised His sheep, but they do not want to follow His teachings and obey His voice. Jesus warned us that in the last days, false prophets would arise, who would try to turn us from the truth.

There is only one door to salvation today, and that is through the Name of Jesus. Isaiah prophesied of His coming in Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

The angel told Joseph: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21.

He is the great I AM, and when we enter through the open door He has provided, we will find rest and security in this life, and a hope of eternal life to come.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you have revealed your love and mercy to us, and showed us the way to enter through the door into your kingdom. We give you all the praise and glory that is due to your Wonderful Name.
