“And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.” Genesis 16:2 As Sarah reached her mid-seventies, her faith was probably growing weak at times.  Waiting this long for a promise to be fulfilled had to be very disheartening. What she lacked now was not endurance but trust in God.  She made a decision that would affect her rights and privileges as a wife.  She instructed Abraham that she wanted…

“And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb. And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.” I Samuel 1:6-7 Hannah had a problem. She was barren. In those days that was a sign of reproach. It was not because of any sin in her life that caused her to be that way. Verse six of Chapter 1 tells us that the Lord had shut up her womb.…

“When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.” (Exodus 33:22 in the New International Version.) During a recent vacation in the mountains of North Carolina I observed clefts tucked away in the rocks. They looked like little porches where a bird or small animal could stay to weather out a storm. This portion of scripture let Moses know that God was going to shelter him in time of storm. 1 Corinthians 10:4 said, “That rock was Christ.” It’s not speaking of these clefts but it’s talking about our God being a refuge. As we were walking and observing God’s beautiful creation my mind went to this passage. These clefts are not man made; they are made by God alone. He formed them with His own hands. He shelters us from the storms of life when we belong to Him.
Prayer: Lord, I thank you for the special shelters You have prepared for Your people. Though the storm rages on all around me, I’m protected by the cleft of the rock.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.” Psalm 37:23-24. We use the word “good” in so many ways. We speak of a good day, a good book, a good dinner, a good friend, a good sermon, a good night’s sleep, and the list goes on and on. In this verse, David is talking about a good man and how the Lord feels about him. What are the criteria for being considered good…

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey” (Zechariah 9:9, New King James Version). “And they brought him to Jesus; and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way . . . the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had…
