“Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. (Matthew 7:13, The Message)
I was once in an elevator that got stuck in between two floors. I do not remember exactly how old I was. I do remember that I took the elevator thinking that it was the quickest way to get downstairs. When the elevator stopped, I waited patiently for the door to open but nothing happened. I stood there for a minute wondering whether or not I should panic. After what felt to be an eternity, the elevator moved and I was able to casually walk off pretending that I didn’t just have a nervous breakdown in the elevator.
Sometimes shortcuts will cause us to face unnecessary challenges. Life is not a race. Take your time! The fastest way will not always be the best way.
Prayer: Help us to be thorough when making decisions and to slow down when faced with a fork in the road. I pray that you would lead us in this journey. Amen.
