“Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” Psalm 37:3

Trust is firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. Think of all the things that you have trusted already today. You pressed a switch expecting a light to come on. You plugged in a kettle or coffeepot anticipating a hot drink. You turned the key in your car fully believing that it would start and take you to work or school or wherever you needed to go. You trust each week or month, that your pay cheque will show up in your bank account. You trusted a friend to meet you at a specific time.

All of these are things that we take for granted, but there are times when they may fail us. The power may have gone off in the night, so the light does not come on, or the coffeepot does not work. Friends that we have trusted may let us down.

But David believed with all his heart that if He trusted God, everything would be all right. He proved this when he faced the giant, Goliath, with a slingshot and stones, relying only on the God who had delivered him from the lion and the bear. And all through his life, we see how He trusted God in every circumstance.

Years later, his son, Solomon, would echo his words in Proverbs 4:5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

It is easy to trust the Lord when everything is going well, but it takes strength to trust Him when we are facing a trial or a test. We are human, and our first thought is usually to find a way to work things out by ourselves. We forget that the Lord knows exactly what we are going through, and He already has the solution.

Today, we have so many encouraging stories and teachings in the Bible to encourage us to trust. We have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ which gives us much more reason to trust than David knew. The Holy Spirit which dwells within us, whispers that He is in control, and that He is working all things for our good.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord Jesus, that we can trust you completely with every aspect of our lives, knowing that you love us and will never leave us nor forsake us.

  1. Yes, it’s easy to trust Him when everything is good but when things aren’t so good that’s when we appreciate His goodness to us.

To be able to trust Him when things are “not so good “ is such a blessing. I’m thankful He taught me to trust Him.
