Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days (Daniel 6:10, Holy Bible, New King James Version).

Daniel showed no concern about the signed decree that prohibited petitions to anyone other than King Darius. Daniel had prayed three times each day before the decree and he made no changes the day the order to stop praying became effective. He did not hide in fear and whisper prayers in a corner. Daniel threw open the windows and prayed with boldness. He knew that his God, the one true God, would take care of him.
Prayer: Lord, give me Daniel’s determination to devote time to prayer without distractions. Amen.

Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church, (Acts 12:5, Holy Bible, New King James).

My ophthalmologist directed my attention to his left ear a few seconds before he shined a blinding light into my face. I wanted to close my eyes, but he insisted that my focus remain steadfast even though I couldn’t see. The directional angle allowed him to examine specific portions of my eye. While Peter was unjustly imprisoned, the local church could have been blinded by the impossibility of circumstances. After offering a single prayer for a hopeless situation, they could have closed their eyes and moved to the next prayer need. Instead, the church focused its attention on Peter. God heard their continual prayer and dispatched an angel to release Peter from the jail. Focused prayer became a miracle.
Prayer: Lord, help me to focus on the individual needs of those around me. Let my prayers united with others touch You for a miracle. Amen.

Haunted eyes, a heavy heart, and feet that dread the next step. Life has a way of dragging us down.

We do not have to live very long before we discover that we do not have all the answers. Life is bigger than we are, and we need help!

Prayer is the key!

“Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the ends of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy” (Psalm 61:1-3).

Prayer: When I talk to You, Lord, You lift my load and chase the storm clouds away. You bring peace to my troubled mind and calm my fears. You lift me above my circumstances so that I can walk in peace and joy again.

“And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:36-37 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

The angel, Gabriel, used the miraculous pregnancy of Mary’s cousin, Elisabeth, to illustrate to her that God could indeed do anything! I often pray for the impossible to happen in my own life and the lives of family and friends. I believe God has answered every prayer I’ve prayed. Sometimes the answer is “No”, sometimes it’s “Not now” and at other times God says, “Yes!”

Prayer: Mighty God, When I believe for the impossible today, I know that You are fully capable of making it a reality. If the time is right, and the answer is in Your will for my life, it will be accomplished! Amen.

How often have we heard our children say, “I want one!” Regardless of what it was, they wanted it simply because someone else had one. The children of Israel thought they wanted one; a king that is.

“Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay, but we will have a king over us” (1 Samuel 8:19 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

God knew they didn’t need an earthly king but allowed them to have one because they asked for it. Did it help their situation? Not at all. Samuel, the man of God, knew what was best for God’s people because he listened to God. Do you want something when God has already said, “No”? Listen to the man of God. God speaks through him to you.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be content with what You have given me. You know what’s best even when I want something that is not in Your will. Amen.

“Closet communion needs time for the revelation of God’s presence. It is vain to say, “I have too much work to do to find time.” You must find time or forfeit blessing. God knows how to save for you the time you sacredly keep for communion with Him.” -Arthur Tappan Pierson

“When I find myself racing around, trying to fill a day with mindless tasks or petty entertainment, this is usually the time that God whispers to my heart to draw away with Him and to silence my heart as He wishes to speak.” -K. Walden

A co-worker’s grandson, Max, was born with damaged kidneys. He’s had the best medical treatment available. But still Max is sick.
Suffering comes to all of us. But, hopelessness only comes to those who are “without Christ”. READ Ephesians 2:12 from the Holy Bible, King James Version: “That at that time ye were without Christ, …having no hope,…”
Followers of Jesus Christ are Never Without Hope! The difference between the Christian and the Non-Christian isn’t their problems. It’s where they’ve placed their hope.
Max’s grandmother, Karen, is a dedicated Christian. Recently Max had surgery. Because he’s a baby, they couldn’t sedate him. We asked God to send angels to surround Max during his surgery. God answered our prayer.
Karen understands that only Jesus knows Max’s future. This knowledge comforts her and makes her Never Without Hope!
Prayer: Jesus, thank-you for being my hope. Solve my problems. Meet my needs. Teach me to always hope in You.
