“Only do not two things unto me: then will I not hide myself from thee. Withdraw thine hand far from me: and let not thy dread make me afraid.” Job 13:20-21

Job had been suffering not only from physical pain, but from the pain of losing his children and his possessions. This prayer that he offered to God asked for two things: that the Lord would always be there for Him, and that He would take away his fear.

Many people going through times of suffering and loss blame God for their troubles. They think that God has forsaken them, and they are afraid to even pray and ask God for help. Job realized that even though he had lost almost everything, it was important that he not lose his faith in God. Even though he did not understand why God was allowing all these troubles, He knew that God was in control and if he could depend on the Lord being with him, somehow things would work out for the best.

Sometimes we face things in our lives that we cannot understand, and that is the time that we need to pray Job’s prayer, asking God to never leave us and to take away all fear. He is faithful and will never allow us to face anything that He does not give us strength to face.

Prayer: Jesus, we thank you for your faithfulness and your promise never to leave us nor forsake us.
