“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
If you are walking on a pathway at night, a flashlight is a wonderful thing to have. You can shine it ahead of you, to see what is there, and you can also shine it on your feet to make sure there are no obstacles in the way to trip you up. Without the light you will imagine all sorts of things that are not there at all.
Having the Word of God hidden deep in our hearts gives us the confidence we need to face each day. Even the most confusing day, opens before you as you go step by step with the Lord. When the way seems dark, the Holy Spirit brings a Scripture to our minds that encourages us and lends light on the situation we are facing.
Oftentimes, a Scripture will come to us that we didn’t even know we had memorized. That is why daily Bible reading is important. Reading the Bible through each year is a good habit to practice. Each time we read it we find new truths that we had not seen before. Our minds store up the promises of God, and when we need them, we will remember them. When we are facing a problem, a trial, or a difficult decision, like a light, a Scripture comes to our minds, showing us which way to go.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, there are times when we walk on difficult pathways, and we cannot see what is ahead of us, but we are thankful for your Word which is a light unto our path.
