“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:13-14

As I went to prayer this morning, some thoughts began swirling around in my mind about something that happened many years ago.  For just a moment, I felt the pain and frustration that I had experienced at that time.

Then I realized that mulling over the past could not change anything, and I cried out to the Lord asking Him to take those thoughts from my mind.  I began thanking Him for being with me at that time and working things out.  As I meditated upon His blessings and His goodness to me, His joy and peace flooded my soul.  The trials and sorrows of the past faded away and I rejoiced in this day that He has given me.

Our minds are filled with so many things that we have witnessed in the past, and it is impossible for them not to surface at times, but we can choose not to keep thinking about them and letting them steal our joy.

Prayer:  Thank you Jesus, that you are with me every day, that the past is covered by your blood, and that today you are my strength and my joy.
