“No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand,” (Isaiah 40:15, Holy Bible, New Living Translation). I’ve heard this metaphor—a drop in the bucket—since childhood. It puts things into perspective to recognize God’s greatness. Imagine a God so omnipotent He sees 6.9 billion people inhabiting seven continents as a grain of sand. Yet in His greatness, He recognizes me.
Prayer: Eternal God, I’m awed that in the vastness of the universe, a drop in the bucket, You recognize me as one of Your children. Amen.
