My perspective is in my control. A lens is an optical device. We all use them, whether for cameras, telescopes, microscopes, or eyeglasses. You look through it. A lens doesn’t change the object you’re looking at—it doesn’t change WHAT IS. It only changes how YOU SEE it. Depending on the…
I grew up in Missouri, USA, where our state motto is “Show Me.” Often when people tell us something, we Missourians will joke, “Show me!” In other words, we want proof that it’s true. I like proof; I like having an assurance that things are going to be fine. I’d…
There’s something about an impending thunderstorm that heightens the senses. The atmosphere stills as the metallic scent of ozone charges the air. Grass and overhanging branches weighed down with leaves suddenly turn a more vibrant green against the dark grey sky. Lightning forks across the clouds, then the wind churns…
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105 In the last few weeks, God has allowed our path of life to slow down. We may feel like we are walking in the shadows, uncertain of what lies ahead for us. We…
[do_widget id=polylang-2] We all have them. Some more than others. James tells us to count them all joy (1:2), but it’s easier said than done. The book of Job offers wisdom for trusting God in times of distress. When Job emerged from his test of faith, he told God, “I…
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4 Holman Christian Standard Bible) Are you living a life of worry and frustration or are you celebrating God’s blessings in spite of your circumstances? Christians have every reason to rejoice. Our eyes are focused on Jesus -…
So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s…

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD” (Psalm 27:14, Holy Bible, King James Version). You’re on time for a medical appointment, but ‘Someone will be right with you,” multiplies into an hour of waiting. You’re standing in a checkout line only to have the closed sign placed on the counter before your turn. You’re stuck in traffic when all lanes but yours are inching ahead. You move to another lane and it stops moving. Life is filled with waiting times. So why the impatience with God when He asks us to wait for a response to prayers? The Psalmist says that waiting time is productive. When we wait with courage, God rewards us with strength.

“No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand,” (Isaiah 40:15, Holy Bible, New Living Translation).” I’ve heard this metaphor—a drop in the bucket—since childhood. It puts things into perspective to recognize God’s greatness. Imagine a God so omnipotent He sees 6.9 billion people inhabiting seven continents as a grain of sand. Yet in His greatness, He recognizes me.

PrayerEternal God, I’m awed that in the vastness of the universe, a drop in the bucket, You recognize me as one of Your children. Amen.
