“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 When I read this verse and break it down, it tells so many wonderful attributes of God. First, He is wonderful. The definition of wonderful is “inspiring delight, pleasure or admiration. Extremely good; marvellous” Doesn’t that sound just like God? Next, He is our counsellor. We can bring our needs, hurts, dreams, and worry’s to Him – free of judgement and only given love…
Psalms 59:8-10 MSG “But you, God, break out laughing; you treat the godless nations like jokes. Strong God, I’m watching you do it, I can always count on you. God in dependable love shows up on time, shows me my enemies in ruin.” In moments of suffering and struggle, it can…
1 Samuel 17:34-35 NLT “But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the…

“Owe no one anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law” (Romans 13:8, New English Translation). In conversation, when the story is rather complicated or involved, the person relating the event will often say, “To make a long story short.” In other words, they are going to give us the abbreviated version. Romans 13:8 is the “short version” of the Ten Commandments. The law can be summed up in one sentence . . . actually, in just one word: love. Loving My Neighbor Verses 9 and 10 go on to…
“Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit.” Ecclesiastes 6:9 We have all heard the old saying, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” I presume that the saying originally referred to animals breaking through fences because they thought there was better pasture on the other side. We use this proverb to say that the things other people possess, or their situations always look better than your own, even when that is not true. Someone has added the following to this quote:…
“Instead, God has blended together the body, giving greater honor to the lesser member, so that there may be no division in the body, but the members may have mutual concern for one another. If one member suffers, everyone suffers with it. If a member is honored, all rejoice with it.” (I Corinthians 12:24-26, New English Translation). I’ve never been a real sports fan, but I know how important the crowd’s cheering is to those playing the game. Clapping, shouting, whistling, chanting—the roar of the crowd can lift flagging spirits and help them push on to victory. Everyone, whether in…
“Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:” (2 Corinthians 3:2 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).
The city of Corinth was an exceedingly immoral and abandoned place according to Barnes’ Commentary. In spite of the condition of this city a large number had been converted to Christianity and a church was organized. The news had spread abroad. Paul was proud of them and wanted the Corinthians to know their conversions had made a difference. There is nothing better than being a testimony of what God has done in your life. A testimony is not what is said necessarily but what is lived out in our lives. Regardless of how rough your neighborhood is someone is reading your life page by page and deciding if they want to embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ; it’s the Gospel according to you! Don’t forget, actions speak louder than words!
Prayer: Lord, let my life be a testimony that others are drawn to by my actions. Let others see Jesus in me. My city needs You and I can lead them to You.
