“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.”  (Philippians 3:7 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible) Children have a saying when things really don’t make sense.  They say, “Go figure!” The Apostle Paul let us know in this passage that he calculated his…

sky“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, and house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” (2 Corinthians 5:1 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

Moving around to different houses has lost its attraction for me. Maybe it’s because of my age, but getting ready to move is hard work. I don’t want to move anymore! We probably need to downsize but I’m dragging my feet because I simply am tired of moving.

With all that said, I am looking forward to moving to the house not made with hands in the heavens. In our devotional verse, the Apostle evidently means there is a day coming when our soul will no longer be tied to earth by our body, but it will be released back to God who gave it. Now that’s a move I can handle!

While they wandered in the wilderness, the children of Israel had to move the tabernacle everywhere they went. When they arrived at the new place it had to be set-up again. This process was repeated over and over again. What a hope the Resurrection brings to all of us. No more packing!

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for that blessed hope. These earthly houses cannot compare to my eternal home not made with hands!

“And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life,” (1John 2:25, Holy Bible, New King James).

Ask a dozen colleagues “Do you believe in eternity?” Responses will vary from silence to shrugs to comments that religious discussions aren’t allowed in the workplace. Chances are those who respond will say no. Ask a dozen born-again believers about eternal life and you will get smiles and positive reactions.

Scripture says Jesus lived to die, died to be resurrected and was resurrected to provide eternal life with Him. That’s a promise.

Prayer: Lord, I believe Your promise of eternal life. Amen.

I have a friend in Louisiana who has cancer that has spread throughout her body. Her prognosis is that she will be gone from this life in a few short weeks. Delisa just turned 50 and it seems to me it’s too young to be leaving us. She is a vibrant leader who serves with her husband in leadership. She wrote a note to her friends stating that leaving this world and going to be with Jesus was what her life was all about.

I think she read Revelation 2:10,

“Fear none of those things which thou shall suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

Yes, there is a crown of life waiting for those who are faithful! What an assurance for those who serve the Lord.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want to inherit that crown of life. Give me strength to be faithful unto death for there is a crown of life just for me.
