“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10, New King James Version). One of the unpleasantries of summertime travel is the detours around…

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.” (Psalm 37:23 NKJV) While visiting my parents at the hospital, I was happy to find a parking spot near the entrance closest to our ward. As I approached the door, an aide pushing an empty wheelchair was blocking…

“And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.” Isaiah 35:8

When we were raising our family, we did not have a lot of money to spend, especially on entertainment. In those days, gas was not as expensive as today, so often on Saturdays, we would pack a picnic lunch and set out on a road trip. Sometimes we would go to the Airport and watch the planes take off and land. This was before there was so much security. Other times we would visit the lift locks and watch the ships go through.

But the most exciting times for the kids (and us as well) was when my husband would set out through the country, turning off on every little road that appeared. Sometimes we would come to a dead end and have to turn around. We never knew exactly where we would come out. Of course, the kids thought we were lost, but I am sure my husband knew approximately where we were, and we always made it back home safely. At my husband’s funeral, one of the children remarked that they grew up thinking all families went driving and got lost.

Sometimes in life we seem to get off on byways, things seem very unfamiliar, and we wonder how it is all going to turn out. But our driver, the Lord Jesus Christ, knows exactly where we are and He will steer us in the right direction to get us back on track and bring us safely home. All we have to do is trust the Driver.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, sometimes we get sidetracked, but we depend on your Holy Spirit, to lead us in the right way.

We have a tendency to wander away from God, listening to the call of the world and turning aside to go our own way. When we feel lost, it’s important to remember that it’s God’s voice that will set us going in the right direction again.

“And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:21 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

Prayer: Keep me on the right road, I pray. If I do stray, remind me that You are ready and waiting to respond to my cry for help. Order my steps, Lord! Amen.

“I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory” (Psalm 73:23-24 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

Sometimes I feel like the child who wants a toy that another child has. I look around at others who appear to be blessed and prospering while I am suffering and destitute. Weighed down and even a little bitter, I come into God’s presence and there my eyes are opened to His faithfulness.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are my constant companion, seizing my hand and leading me in a life filled with purpose. With great wisdom and infinite tenderness, You guide me. Thank You, Lord!

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps” (Proverbs 16:9 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

Our society places great importance on self-reliance. We are encouraged to dream, scheme and plot our strategy for success. The truth is, no matter how independent I think I am, and despite my best laid plans, none of them will come to fruition without God’s approval. My ideas may sound good to me, but if they are not part of God’s will, they are flawed.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You know where You want me to be today and tomorrow. Thank You, Lord, for Your guidance as I plan for the future. Amen.
