“Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” (James 1:26-27 from the NIV of the Holy Bible)

This passage from the book of James is a reminder that “religion” in itself does not give us our place in Heaven. I am beyond grateful for the church that I am a part of, but again, it is not my church that is saving me.  I need to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.  Being friends with Jesus is not like being friends with anyone else. By having a relationship with Him, it is my duty to behave only in a way that would be acceptable to Him. Every word that comes out of my mouth is a representation of who I am in Him. As difficult as it may be, we need to be mindful of the words that we say because they can have lasting consequences.

Prayer: Lord, as the day goes by help me to be cautious of what my life looks like to others. I want to be a godly example to the people around me. Help me to not only act but speak in a way that glorifies You. In Jesus name, Amen.
