“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your way, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9

Abraham and Sarah were given a promise of children, but Sarah was unable to conceive. Instead of waiting on God for the promise, she tried to hurry the promise herself by allowing Abraham to have her servant, Hagar. Hagar was only doing what she was told, but when she conceived, Sarah became furious. Although, Sarah had made the mistake, she took her anger out on Hagar and made her leave with her child. Sarah didn’t wait on God.  She did what she thought she needed to do to hurry the promise and ended up making a mess of it all.

Later, when Abraham and Sarah were told that Sarah would conceive, she laughed at the thought of someone her age having a baby.  She saw the promise as impossible.

Sometimes we try to hurry the promises of God. When He doesn’t answer when we think He should, we try to take matters into our own hands. When we do this, we only make a mess of things. We spend so much time trying to figure out how we can make the promise happen that by the time it does happen, we are like Sarah and laugh. God doesn’t need our help with fulfilling a promise, after all, it is His promise to you.

Nothing is impossible with God. If we give God all the control in fulfilling the promise, things will go much better. Don’t be like Sarah and think you need to take over, let God do the work and you’ll see your promise happen!

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to wait on Your promises for my life. Teach me to wait on Your timing and not mine. In Jesus Name, Amen!
