“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” (Matthew 6:27, ESV) Are you a worrier? I suspect we all are to some degree. Life has its uncertainties and problems, and it’s easy for us to feel anxious or fearful about what the future holds. We worry about our finances, our health, our relationships, and our safety. We may entertain a lot of “what ifs.” What if I make the wrong career choice? What if my health fails? What if I’m not a good parent? What if I don’t have enough money…
I remember the old tire store and garage. Well, it once was a tire store and garage. When God called us to a small town to preach the gospel, He provided that building for us to use. We knew that although it would take many buckets of soap and water…
As my husband and I were traveling on the highway one day, over in the open field near the road, three crosses were prominently displayed. It was a reminder of the three crosses displayed on Golgotha’s hill many years ago. As we passed by, and I thought of Jesus and…

1 Samuel 17:34-35 NLT “But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death.” I am totally amazed at how fearless David was in the above scriptures. Can you imagine, you look up and suddenly realize that there is a lion headed your way with one intention in mind,…
So when Jesus looked up and noticed a huge crowd coming toward him, he asked Philip, “Where will we buy bread so that these people can eat? ” . . . Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread wouldn’t be enough for each of them to have a little.” (John 6:5, 7, CSB) Have you ever had unexpected guests show up at your door, and you panic as you try to figure out what you will serve them? I remember a time when I knew friends planned to visit, but the doorbell rang a day earlier than I expected. I…
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV Fear is something I believe most, if not all of us, have dealt with in the last few years. In moments when I would personally feel fear, this scripture often came to mind. God has not given us a spirit of fear (fearfulness, timidity, cowardice) but rather a spirit of power, love and a sound mind. Let’s break each one of those down. Power in this scripture can also be translated as “dynamis.” According to…
Patience does not come naturally to me. It is a learned behavior. One of my earliest memories as a child is my father quoting Luke 21:19, “Karen, ‘In your patience possess ye your souls.'” The Bible is clear; we must have patience to receive the promise. “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise” (Hebrews 10:36). The Bible is equally clear that trials help me learn patience. “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope”…
