“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.) I have received packages at the Post Office that did not have my name on them. They were…
Psalms 61:2 “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Have you ever had an unexpected situation sneak up on you in life? Did it completely catch you off guard? I experienced…

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1, Holy Bible, King James Version)
Have you ever fumbled for a flashlight during an electrical power failure? Until that battery operated light illuminates a pathway, you’re in darkness. Sometimes life is a blackout with no ray of hope, no visible escape. Look toward the Lord. He is your light and your salvation.
Prayer: Lord, when I stumble in darkness and fear clutches me in its grips, lead me to safety by Your light. Amen.

“Trust me,” my husband likes to tease. But trust is not something that comes easy for me. Fearful and anxious, I am reluctant to try many things. Too often people have let me down, and I hesitate, leery of giving them another opportunity to hurt me. Life is full of pain and disappointments. Who is safe? Is there anyone that I can trust? Do they mean what they say or is there a hidden agenda? Am I being manipulated? The Word of God declares, “God is faithful” (1 Corinthians 10:13). That means that He is trustworthy, true, loyal, constant, staunch, steadfast, devoted, and true-blue!
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness. You are a rock in the middle of the uncertainties in my life. I am so thankful.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go,” (Joshua 1:9, Holy Bible, New King James).

It’s been said that everyone has a reservoir of hidden courage that surfaces when needed. I’ve heard of ordinary people who performed heroic feats in emergencies. I’ve wondered what pushed them to abandon their fear to help others. Perhaps it begins with recognition that God is their source of courage, for He is with them.
- Prayer: Lord, give me the strength to be courageous because You are with me everywhere I go. Amen.

- Have you ever been lost with no street lights? Ever fumbled for a flashlight during an electrical power failure? Until that smidgeon of light helps you focus on your path, you’re in a blackout. Sometimes life is like that. A blackout with nothing visible. Until you look toward the Lord. He is your light and your salvation.
- Prayer: Lord, when I stumble in darkness, shine Your light on me and give me strength. Amen.

Have you ever felt fearful and alone and that nobody cared or would even notice if you dropped off the face of the earth? I have – until I met the one who never misses a bird’s funeral. READ Matthew 10:27-31, from the Holy Bible, King James Version:
“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father (knowing). But the very hairs of your head are all numbered…Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”
Your Heavenly Father understands your fears! Know that He is watching over you so intently that He keeps track of how many hairs you have. You are valuable to God!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, sometimes I’m afraid of what’s going to happen to me. Help me to trust You to watch over me and not to worry about the things I cannot control.

“And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.” (Luke 8:24-25 in the King James Version)
Like the disciples of Jesus on board a capsizing ship, we must recognize that God is the authority in our life. When you feel like you’re going to drown, call out to the Master, the captain of your soul! He can silence your fear and quiet your emotions. Take courage. Your life is in His hands.
Prayer: Mighty God, By simply saying, “Peace, be still!” all of my anxiety and raging thoughts give way to the calm reassurance of Your voice. You are my Master!
Devotion to Julie Long
Haunted eyes, a heavy heart, and feet that dread the next step. Life has a way of dragging us down.
We do not have to live very long before we discover that we do not have all the answers. Life is bigger than we are, and we need help!
Prayer is the key!
“Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the ends of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy” (Psalm 61:1-3).
Prayer: When I talk to You, Lord, You lift my load and chase the storm clouds away. You bring peace to my troubled mind and calm my fears. You lift me above my circumstances so that I can walk in peace and joy again.
