“Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7 KJV) As a child, I remember playing Hide ‘n Seek. I am the oldest of eight and we played this game at least once a day. No iPads,…

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust” (Psalm 91:2). We oftentimes do not struggle with accepting the fact that God is our fortress, our protector and shield from the fiery darts of the enemy. We believe that…

“When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by” (Exodus 33:22 in the New International Version). During a recent vacation in the mountains of North Carolina I observed clefts tucked away in the…

wall“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” (Proverbs 18:10 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.)

There is nothing like His name. He is not just a tower, but He is a strong tower. The word strong is an adjective describing the tower. It’s not one in need of repair; it stands strong against the winds of adversity.

When I call on His name I feel complete safety. He is a refuge and my security. I have no need to fear whatever comes my way. His name brings peace to any situation.

Prayer: When I whisper Your name I feel automatic strength and peace. As the songwriter so apply wrote, “Jesus is the sweetest name I know. And He’s just the same as His lovely name. That’s the reason why I love Him so. For Jesus is the sweetest name I know.”

mask“Buck-up” therapy. You’ve heard of it, haven’t you? In fact, we all have probably subscribed to the philosophy. Pretending that nothing is wrong, we gamely appear to be unaffected by the conflict and stress that fills our lives. After all, asking for help is often perceived as a sign of weakness. The tendency to bluff our way through our problems often prevents us from receiving the help and support we desire. We need each other, and we need God. None of us are capable of maneuvering through the obstacles of life without a Savior.

Prayer: Dear Lord, You are our refuge, a very present help in the time of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Thank You for allowing us to come before You without masks or pretense. You are our safe place.

The LORD will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:9, Holy Bible, King James Version).

Trouble! Had more than your share? Not interested in repeats, but they continue? The Psalmist offers a solution. When life overwhelms you, the Lord will provide a safety net. If your journey has lead you into oppression, step into God’s safe house and rest sheltered by His peace.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I have no place to turn but You. Shelter me in my times of trouble. Amen.
