“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people.” (I Peter 2:9, KJV) God’s people have always been special to Him. The King James Version of Exodus 19:5 describes them as a “peculiar treasure,” a possession He values and holds dear to Himself. The word peculiar has several meanings. As a teen I never took time to check a dictionary. In my mind peculiar meant strange, and being an oddball was not a particular goal for my life. Why did I have to be strange to be a Christian? A trip to the dictionary…

“Look! The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will name him Emmanuel,” which means “God with us.”Matthew 1:23 NET Emmanuel…God with us.  How incredible!  Jesus is God with us…always.  In every moment.  In every struggle and in every battle.  He is, always, “Emmanuel, God with us”. We know we live in a physical world, but fight a spiritual battle (I Corinthians 10:3-5; Ephesians 6:12). How wonderful is it to know that Jesus, our Emmanuel, is always with us! Fighting for us, defending us, covering us…we can breathe a sigh of relief knowing this! Sisters, we…

“May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us. [Interlude] May your ways be known throughout the earth, your saving power among people everywhere” (Psalm 67:1-2 from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation). At first glance, this psalm, a song, seems straightforward, asking for God’s mercy and blessings for people in his circle. The purpose shifts with the interlude when stringed music absent of words moves the writer’s focus to concentrate on the need for saving power for people everywhere. When I pray, do I remember that it’s not about me? It’s about us.
Prayer: Eternal God, I give you highest praise because You have smiled on all of us. Amen.

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”  Hebrews 13:8 It is great to think about the things of yesterday, the blessings the Lord poured upon us and the miracles He did.  It is also great to think about the hope He has given us for the future – life in Heaven with Him. The Psalmist said, “This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.”  While we are praising Him for the victories of the past and looking forward to what He has in store for…

“And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti” (Esther 2:17). The Book of Esther is a small book tucked into the middle of the Old Testament. It contains just ten short chapters, with a beautiful young Jewish orphan and her older cousin as two of the central characters. The book contains a bit of love, a bit of intrigue, good versus evil, and a happy ending when good…
