“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Bible is a powerful book—a life-changing book. Filled with eternal promises, it…

“Their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night.”” (Psalm 1:2 in the New Revised Standard Version of the Holy Bible). Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” The Bible agrees with this statement. God designed us to use our minds in living for Him. We are to memorize and digest the promises and laws found in the Bible. Faithful followers of Christ will allow the Word of God to “wash” their minds clean from the many other things in life that clamor for our attention. We are to carefully focus our minds on the Scriptures and mentally mull them over and over in our minds. What are you feeding your mind today?
Prayer: Teach me your laws, Lord. Help my mind to dwell on the good things of Your Word. Remind me of Your promises. Give me the strength to avoid unholy thoughts and actions. In Jesus Name, Amen.

roadWouldn’t it be nice to know what lies ahead? Fortune tellers and tarot card readers make money, promising glimpses into the future. But no one can successfully predict what tomorrow or next year will bring. The Word of God is our best source for direction. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). God’s Word is not a spot light that shines for miles, but it is a lamp. A lamp only casts its light a few feet ahead. But by that light, you can see where to step. After the first step is taken, it reveals the next few feet.

Prayer: Dear God, Thank You for Your Word. Reading its pages and listening to Your voice provides us with the roadmap for each day. Please help us to hear and understand what You are saying.

While flying a plane in thick fog, the pilot cannot be sure of his direction unless he gives full attention to his instruments. In a thunderstorm, the turbulence can toss the plane about; the darkness within the clouds may cause disorientation. Sometimes the pilot will feel as though he is going up or down or turning around. But he cannot depend on his feelings. Only the gyros can be trusted, so the pilot must hang on to the controls in the turbulence, and discipline his mind to concentrate on the instruments-not on the storm.

There is a parallel spiritual truth for the believer in troubled times.

Undisciplined feelings will cause disorientation-even a crash- unless we keep ourselves stabilized by the facts of God’s Word.
